LED (light-emitting diode) therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses specific light wavelengths to target different skin concerns.

 

It is commonly used to support the management of acne, fine lines, pigmentation, rosacea, and general skin health.

  • Redness and inflammation

  • Enlarged pores

  • Pigmentation

  • Fine lines and ageing changes

  • Dark circles under the eyes

  • Acne, including inflamed breakouts

  • Post-procedure support (e.g. after CIT) to promote healing and reduce bruising

How does it work?

LED therapy uses light energy to influence natural skin processes. Different light colours target different concerns:

  • Blue light: Targets bacteria on the skin, often used for acne-prone skin.

  • Red light: Supports healing, encourages collagen production, and promotes skin cell renewal.

  • Other wavelengths may be selected depending on your treatment goals.

 

What results can I expect?

LED therapy does not work by damaging the skin, so improvements develop gradually.

Some people may notice changes within days, while for others it may take several weeks.

Factors such as age, skin condition, lifestyle, and health can all influence outcomes.

 

How do I prepare before treatment?

Generally, no special preparation is required beyond a consultation and following your practitioner’s guidance.

 

Will it hurt?

LED light does not generate heat and is generally considered comfortable. Protective eyewear is worn throughout the session. Some people may find the light brightness distracting at first, but this usually settles quickly.

 

Who is suitable for treatment?

Most people can have LED light therapy. However, it may not be recommended for individuals with certain conditions such as bipolar disorder, where light exposure could trigger symptoms. Suitability will always be assessed at consultation.

 

What are the side effects and risks?

Side effects are generally mild and short-term, and may include:

  • Headaches

  • Eyestrain

  • Irritability

 

What aftercare is recommended?
  • Maintain a basic skincare routine

  • Apply sunscreen daily to protect treated skin

 

How many sessions will I need?

LED therapy is usually performed as a course of treatments. A series of 6–10 sessions at weekly intervals is commonly recommended, but the number varies depending on individual skin needs.
